Indigenisation: Indigenisation has been one of the thrust areas of HQ MC and fuelled by our desire for self reliance. Development through trade and private industry is an inescapable requirement for numerous categories of spare required by Indian Air Force. 

To ensure that the benefits of indigenisation are available, vendor base are being developed and this has grown in quantity and quality. Organising of seminars and expositions by IAF has received good response from the industries for enhancing our vendor base and has resulted in achieving many milestones. Few recently held interactions with industry in form of various forums are appended below:-

Major achievements of indigenisation through private industry in the recent past are Pallets & Containers, Dzus Fasteners, Pressure Gauges, Testers, Engine Cranes and Teflon Hoses. 

We are looking forward to vendors who can provide right impetus and have expertise in aviation ball bearings & roller bearings, filter elements, springs, radomes, etc. 

Clothing Management in IAF. During the Air Force Commanders Conference Apr 2012, Clothing has been declared as KRA by the CAS. Towards this, a Conference on "Clothing Management in IAF" was organised by HQ MC on 18 and 19 Jun 12. Representatives from all agencies responsible for Provisioning, Procurement, Inspection and Supply chain management including Air HQ and Ordnance Factories were present. Representatives from Army and Navy were also invited to share their views. The team of Ordnance officials was headed by Shri SK Gupta, Addl DG, DGOF Gp HQ Kanpur. The conference generated lot of issues and ideas towards improving supply chain and quality of clothing items. Some of the salient points discussed included Market friendly and quality specification for COTS items, encouraging development partners, possibility of usage of Biometric Measurements and improvements in quality and supply from DGOF. AOC-in-C, HQ MC, IAF chaired the conference and highlighted the need of paradigm shift to ensure the quality of clothing items specially the uniform. He also emphasized the need of time bound improvement on various aspects on supply of clothing items from Ordnance Factories starting from procurement of raw material to final dispatch of items. Addl. Director General, DGOF assured a positive outcome in near future. 

Publicity Programmes. Stations and Units under Maintenance Command conduct various Publicity Programmes to spread career and induction related information regarding Officers' Cadre. During 2011, officers visited 16 schools & colleges and participated in 12 Career Fairs. 

During 2012, in addition to regular publicity campaign, Stations/Units of Maintenance Command would conduct 'Induction Publicity Fortnight' twice a year where in officers would conduct motivational talks in schools / colleges / educational institutes and participate in Career Fairs to encourage students to adopt IAF as a career. These programmes would coincide with the period of invitation of application for AFCAT in the months of Jun and Dec every year. 

The next AFCAT is scheduled on 26 Aug 12. The candidates meeting the laid down QRs can apply online on www.careerairforce.nic.in from 09 Jun 12 to 09 Jul 12. 'Induction Publicity Fortnight' was observed by all Stns / Units of MC from 18 Jun 12 to 01 Jul 12 wherein officers visited various schools and colleges to give motivational talks. 

Sports Activities. Maintenance Command has participated in 22 events and stood 3rd position in overall AF Championship 2011-12. MC team achieved 1st position in Aquatics, Boxing, Hockey and Table Tennis; 2nd position in Handball, Wrestling and Weightlifting and 3rd position in Best Physique, Basketball, Chess and Lawn Tennis. 

In the year 2012-13 Maintenance Command has participated in 08 events till date and stood 1st in Football, 2nd in Boxing and 3rd in Cricket, Badminton and Marathon.
