|ROUND THE WORLD MICROLIGHT EXPEDITION 2007
The "Round the World" Microlight expedition was flagged off on 01 Jun 07 from AF Stn Hindon by the CAS as part of IAF Platinum Jubilee Celebrations. The microlight piloted by two IAF pilots Wg Cdr R Monga and Wg Cdr Anil Kumar circumnavigated the globe, covered a distance of about 40,000 Kms and returned to Delhi on 19 Aug 07. The expedition covered 19 countries, with a purpose of promoting the spirit of adventure and international goodwill.
MISSION SEVEN SUMMITS
After the first successful summit of Mt Everest by IAF in 2005, Mission Seven Summits was launched to scale the highest peaks of all the seven continents.
CARSTENZ PYRAMID A team comprising of Air Cmde TK Rath, Wg Cdr RC Tripathi, Sqn Ldr N Rawat,Sqn Ldr R Sagar , WO Nizamuddin,JWO NR Choudhary and Sgt Basavaraj scaled Carstenz Pyramid (4884M) in Papua New Guinea island in Indonesia in Feb 2009.
A team comprising of Wg Cdr RC Tripathi, Sqn Ldr Jaikishan, Sqn Ldr N Rawat, JWO NR Choudhary and JWO Suresh Pal scaled Mt Aconcagua (5895M)in South America in Jan -Feb 2010.
MOUNT DENALI EXPEDITION 2010
A team comprising of Wg Cdr RC Tripathi, Wg Cdr Jai Kishan, Sqn Ldr N Rawat, Sqn Ldr Rishi Sagar, Sqn Ldr D Panda, JWO NR Choudhary and Sgt J Singh successfully climbed Mt Denali (6194M)in USA in May - Jun 2010.
MOUNT ELBRUS AND MT KILMANJARO EXPEDITION 2010
A team comprising of Wg Cdr Tripathi, Sqn Ldr N Rawat, Sqn Ldr GP Kumar, Sqn Ldr D Panda, JWO NR Choudhary and Sgt J Singh scaled Mt Elbrus (5633M) in Europe and Mt Kilmanjaro (5895M)in South Africa in Aug- Sep 2010.
IAF WOMEN MT EVEREST EXPEDITION
The preparation for launching an IAF all women expedition to Mt Everest in 2011 commenced in 2009 with the launch of an expedition to Stok Kangri (6023M) in Leh during Jul-Aug 2009 wherein seven lady officers reached the summit. This was followed by an expedition to Mt Bhagirathi(6512M) in Gangotri region in Sep - Oct 2009 and winter training at Siachen Base camp in Jan 2010.
PRE- EVEREST MOUNT KAMET EXPEDITION 2010
The first pre Everest expedition to Mt Kamet (7756M) was conducted in Apr - May 2010. Gp Capt NK Dahiya led IAF women mountaineers to the third highest peak in India which was successfully summitted.
PRE- EVEREST MT SASER KANGRI EXPEDITION 2010
The last step of the preparatory stage for Mt Everest was the expedition to Mt Saser Kangri (7672 M). The expedition gave invaluable exposure to the team, testing their physical and mental stamina, preparing them for the challenge of Mt Everest.
MT EVEREST EXPEDITION (SE-RIDGE ROUTE) 2011
The IAF Women Everest Expedition led by Gp Capt NK Dahiya created history on 21 May 2011 when Flt Lt Nivedita , Sqn Ldr Nirupama Pandey and Cpl S Raju Sindhu reached the summit of Mt Everest. They were followed by Sqn Ldr D Panda, Flt Lt Rajika Sharma, JWO J Singh and Sgt Ganesh Singh Pokhariyal on 25 May 11 . Other team members were Gp Capt P Joshi, Wg Cdr Bhavana Mehra, Sqn Ldr TS Menon, Sqn Ldr Sekhar Gayathri, Sqn Ldr Lalita Akhilesh Mishra, Flt Lt Venkoba Deepika Rao, Flt Lt Toolika Rani, Flt Punita, Flt Lt Babu Rao, Flt Lt SS Behera, Fg Offr B Bhavani, Cpl DK Vyas.
Three members, Sqn Ldr Gayathri, Fg Offr Bhavani and Cpl S Raju Sindhu also participated in Everest Half Marathon, the world's highest marathon and Sgt Raju Sindhu stood first in the marathon.
ALPINE STYLE EXPEDITIONS IN INDIAN HIMALAYAS
In order to develop greater proficiency in mountaineering and promote self-reliance, two alpine style expeditions were launched, where the mountaineers attempted to scale mountains without the support of any porters/ guides.
MOUNT RUDUGAIRA 2011
A team comprising of Wg Cdr SK Kutty, Sqn Ldr M Lakra, Sqn Ldr Rishi Sagar, MWO Nizamuddin, Sgt A Mukkerjee, Cpl Shankar , Cpl Vinoth, Cpl L Lois and Cpl RD Kale successfully climbed Mt Rudugaira ( 5885 M) in May - Jun 2011.
MOUNT LUNGSER AND MOUNT CHAMSER KANGRI 2011
A team led by Wg Cdr SK Kutty and comprising of Sqn Ldr N Rawat, Sqn Ldr Agnihotri, MWO Nizamuddin, JWO Suresh Pal, Sgt SV Kumar, Cpl Rajesh Kumar, Cpl JPS Raina, Cpl R Kale, LAC Jayveer Singh and NC(E) Ali successfully climbed Mt Lungser Kangri (6666M) and Mt Chamser Kangri (6634M) in Sep 2011.
RAID DE-HIMALAYA CAR RALLY 2011
IAF team participated in the world's toughest car rally known as Raid-de-Himalaya in Oct 2011. The treacherous route, covering 3430 kms started at Shimla, then onwards to Kulu-Manali-Tohtang-Gramphoo-Kaza-Kylong-Patseo-Leh-Kargil-Rangdom, finally crossing Zojila Pass and ending at Srinagar. Team consisting of Gp Capt Abrol, Wg Cdr Ashish, Sqn Ldr Choudhary , JWO AK Singh, Cpl Raliya, Cpl Rakesh and CPL Karan participated in three rally modified Maruti Gypsies. The Team stood 5th position out of 151 participants.
PARAMOTOR FLYING OVER THE BAY OF KUTCH 2011
The Directorate of Adventure undertook the challenge of crossing the Bay of Kutch in Paramotor from Mundra Port to AF Station Jamnagar. Sqn Ldr Ramakant accomplished this rare feat on 18 Dec 2011 covering a distance of 55 kms between Mundra (Bhadresher) and Jamnagar.
PARAMOTOR WORLD CUP AT SPAIN 2012
The IAF team comprising of Wg Cdr Ramakant, Sgt LMM Reddy and Cpl Ram Mehar participated in Paramotor World Cup Championship held at Spain (Marugan) from 21 Aug 12 to 01 Sep 12. Wg Cdr Ramakant stood 15th. A total of 119 pilots from 28 countries participated in this championship.
MOUNTAINEERING EXPEDITION TO VIRGIN PEAKS IN LEH
A mountaineering expedition comprising of 18 members was launched in Jun-Jul 2012 to scale virgin peaks in Ladakh near Tso Morari lake. 12 members scaled Peak-1 ( 20112 feet) on 29 Jun 12. 09 members scaled Peak -II (20850 ft) on 06 Jul 12 and 05 members scaled Peak -III (20932 ft) on 08 Jul 12. The team was led by Wg Cdr RC Tripathi and Wg Cdr N Rawat.
ENGLISH CHANNEL SWIMMING 2012
The IAF channel swimming team "Delphinus" comprising of Wg Cdr Paramvir Singh, Flt Lt YA Narayanpethkar, Cpl Srihari and Cpl AK Patel successfully crossed the English channel twice on 26 Jun 12 and 05 Jul 2012 in relay category between Shakespeare beach, Dover (England) and Cap Griz Nez (France). The team has awarded "The Montserrat Tresserras shield" by the Channel Swimming Association of U.K
IAF MARKING INDIA EXPEDITIONS
To celebrate its 80th anniversary in a befitting manner, Indian Air Force planned two challenging expeditions under the banner of "IAF Marking India" in 2013. The aim of these expeditions was to showcase versatility of air warriors and place boot on ground in remote regions where the local people associate IAF with only helicopter sorties and air dropping of supplies.
EAST KARAKORAM EXPEDITION
The expedition was conducted in the Rongdu Valley located in East Karakoram mountains of Ladakh. A team of twelve Air Force personnel led by Gp Capt VK Sashindran, Sqn Ldr Avinash Prasad,Sqn Ldr Santosh Dubey, Flt Lt KS Sanghera, Sgt CY Basavaraj, Sgt Deepak Vyas,Sgt Ganesh Pokariya, Cpl Deepak Chhetry, Cpl JPS Raina, Cpl JR Poonia, Cpl Sanjay Bohra and Cpl IA Dar undertook this expedition from 25 Apr to 14 Jun 13.
The team carried out extensive exploration of the Rongdu valley and its side valleys. The team climbed 8 virgin peaks, summiting 7 of them.
UPPER SIANG VALLEY EXPEDITION 2013
Expedition was undertaken in Yangsang chu valley in Upper Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh following an ancient pilgrim route used by Buddhists of Tibet and the local area. The total distance covered during the expedition was 312 km over 14 walking days from 30 Aug 13 to 26 Sep 13. The team members led by Gp Capt VK Shashidran were Wg Cdr Tarun Kumar, Sqn Ldr P Jha, Flt Lt S Patnaik, JWO Rabin Sarkar, Sgt S Sarkar, Cpl J Kundu, Cpl MS Bisht, Cpl JR Poonia, Cpl Satnam Singh, Cpl HS Negi and JPS Raina.
GANGOTRI TO GANGASAGAR RAFTING EXPEDITION 2013
A team led by Wg Cdr Paramvir Singh along with 12 IAF members undertook the challenge of navigating the entire course of River Ganga by motorized raft from Gangotri (Devparayag) to Gangasagar via Haridwar, Garhmukteswar, Kanpur, Allahabad, Varanasi, Balliya, Patna, Farraka, Barrackpore and Kakdeep. This extraordinary voyage was completed in 16 days covering approximately 2600 Kms from 18 Oct 13 to 04 Nov 13.
SHAKTI 81- ADVENTURE TRIATHLON
To commemorate the 81st anniversary of IAF, an endurance event 'IAF Shakti 81' was conducted at AF Stn Devlali on 24 Nov 13. This event comprised of 1.5 Km Open water swim in Dharna river, a 65 Km bicycle ride and 14.5 Km run covering a distance of 81 Kms. 25 air warriors participated in this gruelling race with Sqn Ldr Rohan Anand securing the first position.
SHAKTI 82- ADVENTURE TRIATHLON
The second edition of adventure triathlon 'IAF Shakti 82' was conducted at AF Stn Suryalanka on 06 Dec 14. This event comprised of 2 Km Open water swim in back waters , a 65 Km bicycle ride and 15 Km run covering a distance of 82 Kms. 21 air warriors participated in this gruelling race with Sqn Ldr Rohan Anand once again securing the first position.
POWERED HANG GLIDING EXPEDITIONS
Vajra N-E India Expedition -This expedition was conducted from 07 Nov 13 to 21 Nov 13 which covered 10 AF stations of Eastern Air Command i.e. Hasimara, Guwahati, Tezpur,Jorhat, Dinjan, Chabua, Mohanbari, Kumbigram, Shillong and Bagdogra. The PHG covered approx 1600 kms of distance in 15 days giving 791 days joy rides to the air warriors and their families.
CAC PHG Expedition
CAC PHG Expedition - was conducted from 06 Nov14 to 10 Nov 14 wherein two PHGs covered six AF stations of CAC i.e. Allahabad, Kanpur, Gwalior, Gorakhpur, Bihta and Darbhanga. On 10 Nov 14, the team also flow the longest distance of 380 kms from Gwalior to Allahabad in one stretch and also undertook formation flying.
IAF ALL WOMEN HIGH ALTITUDE CYCLING EXPEDITION KSHITIJ SE PARE
An IAF team of nine women officers successfully completed a high altitude cycling expedition covering approx 1500 km of distance from Pathankot to Leh including a high altitude circuit around Nyoma & Pangong Tso at altitudes above 16000 ft. The expedition was conducted from 02 Jul 14 to 13 Aug 14, with the team crossing several high passes including Rohtang Pass,Tanglang La, Baralachala,Lachulungla, Changla and Khardungla
SWIMMATHON AROUND MUMBAI
A team of 06 air warriors led by Wg Cdr Paramvir Singh swam around Mumbai covering a distance of 286 km in record timing of 48 hrs 44 minutes in relay format. This swim was recognized by the Maharashtra State Amateur Aquatic Association (MSAAA) as the first successful clockwise swim around Mumbai and the longest relay swim in the Arabian Sea.
