MOU FOR IAF HERITAGE CENTRE AT CHANDIGARH

New Delhi,

                                                                                    Friday, 03 Jun, 2022

Shri Banwarilal Purohit, Hon'ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator of UT of Chandigarh and Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari, Chief of the Air Staff witnessed the ceremony for signing of MoU between UT of Chandigarh and IAF for setting up the IAF Heritage Centre at Chandigarh, today. This Heritage Centre will have artefacts, simulator and interactive boards to highlight various facets of IAF. It will also showcase the vital role played by the Service in various wars and assistance rendered for humanitarian assistance and disaster relief. 

This joint project of Administration of UT Chandigarh and IAF is planned to be completed by October 2022. It will attract and encourage the local youth to join the armed forces. Smt Kirron Kher (Member of Parliament, Chandigarh) also witnessed the MoU signing ceremony.

The Hon’ble Raksha Mantri (RM), Shri Rajnath Singh, inaugurated the Air Force Commanders' Conference (AFCC) at Air Headquarters in New Delhi today. The conference was attended by Hon’ble Raksha Rajya Mantri, Shri Ajay Bhatt and Defence Secretary Dr Ajay Kumar, along with senior commanders of the Indian Air Force. Speaking to the senior commanders, the RM stated that the topics being discussed in AFCC were relevant and contemporary in the-present context, and covered the entire canvas of issues/ challenges that are being faced by the Nation. He brought out that he was happy to observe that the directions given by higher authorities were comprehensively being discussed in the conference and would be the guiding light for all future courses of action. He covered the challenges being faced on the Northern and Western borders and expressed his satisfaction in the way Indian Armed Forces have been able to respond to emerging situations. 

The Hon'ble RM praised the Indian Air Force's evacuation effort in Operation Ganga which has been appreciated by the Country. He brought out that the current geopolitical situation has again highlighted the need for indigenisation.   

The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari, subsequently addressed the commanders and asked them to be ready to meet all challenges and enhance capabilities for responding in multiple domains at short notice. He also emphasised the need for conserving assets, optimally utilising resources and the need for jointmanship to enhance National Security. 

To provide a boost to the growing indigenous drone industry, Hon'ble Raksha Mantri launched the "MEHAR BABA COMPETITION - II". The competition is aimed at developing technology for a "Swarm Drone based system to detect Foreign Objects on Aircraft Operating Surfaces".

During the three-day conference, the Air Force Commanders will discuss important issues related to future challenges in a Hi-tech and evolving operational scenario. The theme for this Conference is 'Optimising human resources' and the focus will be on conduct of operations in a smart and efficient manner.  Mitigation of threats posed by drones will also be brainstormed during the conference.

IAF COMMEMORATES 60 YEARS OF GLORIOUS SERVICE

Commemorating 60 Glorious years of service by Chetak Helicopter in IAF, Hon'ble Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh inaugurated a Conclave hosted by Indian Air Force at Air Force Station, Hakimpet on 02 April 2022. Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari and AOC-in-C Training Command Air Marshal Manavendra Singh were present along with other distinguished dignitaries and senior officers of the Armed Forces.  Former Chiefs of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal FH Major (Retd), Air Chief Marshal NAK Browne (Retd) and Former Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Karambir Singh (Retd) were among the key attendees.

On the occasion, Hon'ble Raksha Mantri released a Special Cover, a Coffee Table Book and a Commemorative Movie on Chetak Helicopters.

During his keynote address, the Hon'ble RM highlighted the stellar performance of the Chetak helicopter, both during peace and in conflict, in the past six decades, as also its contributions to foster the spirit of integration and jointmanship. He also acknowledged the immense contribution of all those involved in keeping the machine flying successfully, especially HAL, which has been the flag-bearer for 'Aatmanirbharta' by manufacturing this machine under licence since 1965. He brought out how HAL built up cutting edge helicopters design, development and production capabilities based on this experience.

The Chief of the Air Staff, during his inaugural address, acknowledged the immense contributions by the Chetak in all conflicts since its induction in 1962, as well as its peacetime effort all across the country, including the Siachen glacier.

The Hon'ble RM witnessed the photo exhibition showcasing sixty years of glorious service of Chetak helicopter and interacted with Armed Forces veterans and other dignitaries who were present at the Conclave.

Celebrating the event, a remarkable fly-past by 26 aircraft including Chetaks, Pilatus, Kirans, Hawks, Advanced Light Helicopters and a Light Combat Helicopters was an eye catcher for everyone. The finale was a diamond formation fly past by eight Chetak helicopters, the machine which continues to render yeomen service across the length and breadth of the country. This magnificent machine still operates across all the terrains and is the basic training helicopter for pilots of the three Services.

IAF CELEBRATES DIAMOND JUBILEE OF CHETAK HELICOPTER

The Chetak helicopter in the inventory of the Indian Armed Forces has completed 60 years of glorious service to the Nation. To commemorate this momentous event, a Conclave titled यशस्वत् षट् दशकम् with the theme चेतक आत्मनिर्भरता, बहुविज्ञता एवं विश्वस्तता के छः गौरवशाली दशक is being organized on 2nd April 2022 by Air Force Station Hakimpet under the aegis of Indian Air Force & Training Command, IAF. 

The Hon'ble Raksha Mantri has kindly consented to be the Chief Guest for the occasion. The Conclave, scheduled at the National Industrial Security Academy Convention Centre, Secunderabad will be attended by the Chief of the Air Staff, senior retired & serving officers of the helicopter stream from the three services and officials of MoD, Indian Coast Guard & Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. 

The Conclave intends to provide a platform to showcase six decades of helicopter operations in the country, highlighting Chetak helicopter operations in particular. This event highlight will involve reflections, narrations and discussions by prominent speakers from the veteran community and the Services. Deliverables to the audience would also include perspectives on the evolution of helicopter operations as driven by technology and future battlefield imperatives.
