Frequently Asked Questions

1. Where will I get trained if I join the IAF?

If you are a graduate/ post graduate, joining the IAF into the officer cadre, your initial training as a cadet, will be at Air Force Academy, Dundigal. 
If you have completed your 10+2 schooling, joining the IAF into the officer cadre, your initial training as a cadet will be at National Defence Academy (NDA), followed by training at Air Force Academy
If you are joining the IAF as an airmen, your training as a cadet will be at Airmen Training School (ATS) Belagavi

2. Do I get paid during my training period?

Yes, you will be paid a stipend.You can read more on pay and allowances on the following links

3. Can I continue with my education after joining IAF?

During your training period you will not be permitted to continue with your education. However, the IAF gives you numerous opportunities for higher studies post training.

5. What is the difference between Permanent Commision and Short Service Commision?

A Permanent Commission means a career in the Air Force till you retire. Permanent Commission Officers continue to serve till the age of superannuation. 
A Short Service Commission means a limited period career in the Air Force. You can join the IAF as a Short Service Commission Officer by opting for a SSC Course through AFCAT / MET Entry / NCC Special Entry.
